1. PoshStarring a British ensemble cast including Max Irons, Douglas Booth, Sam Cliffin, Posh tells the story of two first year students who join the Riot Club at Oxford University, where reputations will be made or brought to ruin.
With an all star cast and set in Oxford, how could you not be curious to see more of this film? It'll be pretty interesting to see what direction, the directors and producers will take in showing Brit university culture in this movie as well, especially under these circumstances!
2. The Fault In Our Stars
Sixteen year old, cancer survivor Hazel Grace attends a regular support group for cancer patients, through her parents' insistence. There, one afternoon, she meets the charming and witty Augustus Waters, who she can't help but fall in love with.
The best selling novel written by John Green, comes to the big screen this summer. The Fault In Our Stars was one of my favourite books in 2013. One of the most amazing things about this adaptation is, it will be directed by Josh Boone, who is responsible for creating 'Stuck In Love'. The style and tone of that movie was incredibly beautiful, which is another reason why I have big hopes for this movie adaptation. I pray that it does the book justice! I know that I'll have my tissues by my side at the ready.
3. Love, Rosie
From the author who wrote 'PS I Love You' comes a story about two best friends, Alex and Rosie who attempt to keep in touch after being separated miles away from one another, when Alex's family move to Boston. As time progress, will the course of their friendship change too?
From my understanding of the synopsis at Goodreads, this movie adaptation will combine adolescence in its prime with entry into the world of adulthood. As a final year university student myself, I'll be venturing into the world of adulthood pretty soon, which is why I can't help but excited for a story like this. As much as I love teen fiction, I really like seeing stories based on people in their their early 20s and beyond. Since Rosie is based in Dublin, I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of the Irish culture. Oh I can just imagine the scenery now!
In a futuristic world divided into factions, Tris Prior must blend into the societal system in order to stay alive, as her ability of divergence allows her to break the system that the foundation of her world is built on.
The dystopian young adult series that has taken the world by storm is finally coming to the big screen. From first glance, it looks to be absolutely incredible. I'm excited to see how the world of the factions translates on screen, and the way the directors and producers crafted the world of futuristic Chicago. The chemistry played between Kate Winslet seems to be the perfect character rendition of the ruthless Jeanie Matthews - one of my favourite villains of the bookverse. It's going to be one hell of an adventure!
5. Into The Woods
Based on a Broadway musical, 'Into The Woods' tells the story of a witch, who interferes with the lives of various fairytale story characters including Cindrella and Rapunzel.
I absolutely love fairy tales, and I can't wait to hear more about this movie. It'll be interesting to see how Hollywood intends to make a crossover of all these stories with song. If it's anything like Enchanted, then we're in for a treat! The costumes for this movie look incredibly authentic to the time period these fairy tales are thought to have originated from as well, which is incredibly awesome! With an all star cast including Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt on board, this looks to be a pretty promise film indeed.
6. After The DarkA philosophy teacher creates an experiment for his graduating class of twenty, where only ten of them can shelter underground and reboot the human race in a post-apocalyptic world. What happens when this class experiment gets taken to the literal extreme ...
The concept of living in a post-apocalyptic world where the survival of the human race is on the line is a really intriguing thought. It seems to question morality, and what people will do under these extreme circumstances of life and death when rules of humanity don't exist. The basis of this film seem to raise some very philosophical questions, which will be interesting to watch unfold on screen.
7. Big Hero 6
Set in the fictional verse of San Fransokyo, Big Hero 6 will tell the story of six superheroes, who are employed by the government to protect the nation.
I smell another group of superheroes resembling the Avengers, and what do you know, it's coming from Marvel as well! Big Hero 6 is Marvel's first animated film coming to the big screen this year. The graphics for this film looks just absolutely incredible - from the concept art, to first look footage! The detail put into it all looks visually stunning. I love the Marvel universe that we've seen come to life on the big screen, and I'm sure this film will be no exception to the Marvel movie-verse. I have a feeling that this film will be top quality!
8. The Maze Runner
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Thomas finds himself waking up in the Glade, where a community of boys live, with no memory of who he is. Trapped in the maze, he joins forces with the boys in an attempt to escape.
This story seems to give a pretty unique spin on the world of dyspotian fiction - an entire community of young boys placed in a maze isolated from females and adults - think of the trouble they could get themselves into! Especially when the only girl sent to the Glade, Teresa, played by Kaya Scodelario, comes into the picture. It really does sound like there are bigger forces at play! If all this mystery isn't enough, Teen Wolf's Dylan O'Brien is set to play the lead role of Thomas. This book is definitely a must read in my upcoming summer of freedom.
