Thank you for the thousands of evenings I spent page-turning, till my eyes were drooping from the lack of sleep. You gave me story after story; the chance to meet many different characters over the course of 300+ pages. Each chapter holding new promise, new beginnings. From the stories that hooked me from the very first page to the slow burners that burned my curiosity, I've never been more grateful. Always something to gain, always something to appreciate.

Thank you for introducing me to the world beyond my own point of view. You opened my eyes to the world around me and gave me an appreciation for the milestones yet to come. That insight into someone else's life helped prepare me for the friends and people I had yet to meet. Their lives, their ambitions so different from my own, yet our core beliefs so similar. Meeting characters from all walks of life and diving deep into their lives from their perspective. Priceless.

You introduced me to a community of fiction lovers, who I could share sequel theories with and fangirl with. You helped me develop my own creativity. The ten-year-old me swore creative writing was something I'd never do, traumatised from school activities clearly. And yet the words on a page inspired me to pick up pen and paper, and write with passion. To draw fragments of imagination and bring them to life through words.

To all the books I've loved before - I'm forever indebted to you. I can't recall how many evenings I've spent reading your pages or reminiscing over characters I've long said goodbye to. As the years pass by, it's time for me to finally let you go. I'm sad to see you go - to intentionally box you up with no return to your home, my shelves. But to keep you from the hands of someone who'll appreciate you more is cruel. Why let the dust cover your spine, when I know someone else is dying to read your words? I know the next person who chooses you will get exactly what they need. A home away from home. A companion in their dark days. An escape from reality.

This is my Ode to you.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6056309813798712382.post-43864063882275279012018-06-23T18:15:00.004+01:002018-06-23T18:15:41.642+01:00Why The Charmed Reboot Will Be Cancelled

Charmed was the golden show of my childhood. Following the fiercest trio ever, Piper, Phoebe and Prue (Paige in later series); each episode was filled with kickass demon showdowns and the now-relatable world of 20 somethings navigating post-grad life. Seriously where are these post-teen, pre-serious-thriller shows now?! I'm having major withdrawals ...

So I'll admit when I first heard about the reboot, I was skeptical but hopeful. I loved the series and was open to seeing a new direction or expansion of the Charmed universe. But then came the trailer .... and that changed everything. Granted this is only two-minute preview, but lord ... I've seen enough. Purely based on this alone, I have no doubt that the Charmed Reboot will be cancelled after it's first season. This is why ....

1. Unoriginal Jigsaw Plot Collage
To take an already brilliant show and slice together every single plotline created is not only insulting, but it's sour as hell to the original creators and my fangirl soul. They've exploited a pre-made series and sandwiched together the entire first four seasons for a way to make 'easy money'. Why the hell would I want to watch that, when I can just see the original?

If you are going to recreate the power of three, at least do it with style and with new storylines that embrace the spirit of the fandom. Or better yet, why not look into a spin-off series with Wyatt and Chris, or Patty? New material, new take on the Charmed world. Win-win for all.

2. Caricature Characters
Every single character is literally a replica of the original cast, and that is a dangerous move to play CW. Taking a beloved show and recreating characters, you have to do it really well or not at all. It just makes this look cheap already - and that's before we've even discussed the terrible special effects! I mean seriously, trying to turn sage-dad Leo into a pseudo-sexy whitelighter with a British accent to add the 'exotic' factor ... it feels so ungenuine. Just no.

3. Not Another Teen Drama
Why did this feel like I was watching a mashup of Pretty Little Liars, Shadowhunters and almost every single teen TV drama on the air right now? Even if I could look past the above, the Charmed reboot could not stand its own without the branded name. It lacks charm and intrigue. Every cliche in is literally packed in there!

Where's the spirit and the heart of this show? Why do I feel like fake-Patty is lecturing me rather than offering me soul guidance? Why do I not feel any empathy towards the girls for losing their mum? I just don't believe the character's struggles. With that, I have no sense of attachment what so ever.

4. Too Soon
To bring back a series as a completely new show, it needs to be either different telling in this era or forgotten by the previous generation. Charmed only ended 12 years ago. Not only do we remember it well, but there is also nothing unique about this reboot. There aren't any major major changes in terms of life experiences. Save from modern technology advancing and all ...
The only thing great about this is to see women of colour take centre-stage, but that does nothing to improve the creative choices made, does it?

In conclusion, the creators could have explored the universe outside of the original show by following the Charmed legacy. But instead, the CW saw a chance to make 'easy money' by exploiting an already well-established story and dedicated fanbase ... You brought in nothing new and that at the moment had really diminished any hope of success it could have had. I doubt this will outlive its time off the air like Charmed has. Feel free to prove me wrong. I'll be waiting ...

What do you think of the Charmed Reboot so far? Let's discuss!

Finding a job is such a struggle in today's landscape. I envy the older generation who just needed a degree and smart casual clothing to land their feet firmly inside their careers. Now the fresh grads have to squeeze past the competition to even get an interview. Alongside that, they battle against the gigantic size label that lands in their pathway - 'unemployment'. Such an ugly word ... but why? Because the word unemployment is filled with judgement at its core. It's even plastered all over the official definition ...

<span class="sb-1" style="background-color: white; color: #3b3e41; font-family: "open sans" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; letter-spacing: 0.64px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
The idea of not being invested in or not holding value is hurtful, and frankly, unjustly simplifying the whole situation. It implies that you haven't tried; that you have failed to make your way through life. But that is - excuse my language - utter bullshit. That definition doesn't capture the internal struggle and complexity of transiting between one part of your life to the next. So with that in mind, I present to you the journey of unemployment in five simple stages ...

1. Hopes and Standards
You've just finished your degree, an internship or job role of some kind. You are at the top of your game. With all the experience you have behind you, you have so got this. To make up for your lack of experience, your passion shines through. It speaks volumes beyond your CV. Now the first step to success is finding a role that will suit your needs and ambitions. But you don't just want any job. Oh no - you want a position that'll help you reach your ultimate goal; a job that is fulfilling. Your best way to achieve that is to eliminate any job that doesn't match that. Swipe left, swipe left ...

2. Self-doubt and Conflictions
Why won't they reply? You've sent off your applications, but you're waiting to hear back. It's been forever ... wait, actually, it's only been a couple of hours. Time flies by so quickly in the day when you're focusing on applications. So you take a breather and go outside for a walk. Binge on Netflix and daytime television. It will happen. They're taking their time, but they'll see your potential through paper. It'll happen ...

3. Empty
Time has passed. You've barely had any responses back. All those minutes spent on those applications disappearing before you ... Your bank account keeps receding further and further, and all the while you can't help but wonder -what on earth are you going to do. So you begin to lower your standards. That job you saw a few weeks back is beginning to look more and more appealing ... Sure it isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it can't hurt to try, can it?

4. The Beginning and The Judge The day has finally come! You get your best outfit on and prep your answers ready for the jury ... Two days later, you receive your rejection. So you try again ... and no luck. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. Who knew talking about yourself could be so exhausting. But you do it again, and this one may be different ... Good God, maybe it's time to consider a new career direction ...

5. Victory At Freaking Last
SUCCESS! After all that pain and self-doubt, you finally found a sweet combination of the two. You found a job that'll bring you closer to your goal. It may not have been in the way you expect but it's the start of everything. It'll also help to pay the bills and countless holidays you have in mind, while you climb up the ladder. You made it and it feels so good!

Closing Thoughts ...

My advice to all of you facing unemployment at this very moment is to have faith. I know it's a cliche, but it's a cliche for a reason. Speaking from personal experience, life has a funny way of giving you need when you least expect it. It may not be what you want right now, but you'll thank fate in the long run. Perspective and time will give you the reasons of why. You don't realise this right now, but this time is a blessing for you in disguise. You can truly reflect on what you want and also use this valuable time to grow and become a better version of you. You have something amazing waiting for you beyond this hurdle. Have faith in yourself and your own ability, even when you are being tested. Keep up the hard work - you will only grow from here :)

I wish you the very best of luck in future!

Another year, another book to devour! Battling through the January blues is always such a struggle, but we are nearly there. Attempting to get out of bed in the morning without the sweet promise of holiday cheer and the short hours of daylight is such a struggle. Let's face it, new year's resolutions are about to be broken (if they haven't already), and the countdown to breaking dry-Jan and diet plans is on. With dark winds and cold nights, there is nothing more than curling up to a book by the fire and snuggling away all the crispy crappiness than the post-winter season brings.

Anyway enough chit-chat, feast your eyes on these epic reads and enjoy!

<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">2017 was the year of chaos, childhood reboots and the domination of K-Pop boybands! It's no secret that we all faced incredible hardships this year, but let's not forget the breathtaking moments we witnessed this year that really restored faith in humanity. As we say goodbye to another year, let's celebrate the awesomeness we've shared through the power of the voice and song.

<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">January - 'Solo Dance' - Martin Jensen
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">Girls, how many times have you been out with your friends looking to just enjoy yourself when you, unfortunately, gain the eye of unwanted attention? Not only does this track have funky beat, but those lyrics are female empowerment to the core! Even after all this time, it's still a vibing tune.

February- 'Castle On The Hill' - Ed Sheeran <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">Growing up alongside Ed, I've always felt like his songs truly relate to the current life experiences we're facing. It's extraordinary! 'Castle On The Hill' is the modern day ode to every hard-working millennial hit with an intense case of nostalgia and excitement, as we leave behind our working lives returning to the comfort of our hometowns. Captured oh so epically and beautifully.
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
March- <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">'Stay' <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">- Zedd ft Alessia Cara
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">This song was the highlight of my year. I can't even find the words to describe how happy it makes me feel every time I hear that soothing hum intro. Talk about electric! Alessia Cara smashes every single song she sings and this is part of that movement. What makes this song even more epic is that it was practically the soundtrack of 'Everything, Everything' <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">- YA stan forevermore. <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">

April - '1-800-273-8255' by Logic ft Alessia Cara & Khalid <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
When you turn on the radio or pick up a magazine, you usually see a world full of glam and idealised reality. But this song is the rawest and heartfelt track I've ever heard. It perfectly paints a picture of the struggles people face battling against mental health and hardships in life from their perspective. The number of souls touched by this one gem - oh my god. Legendary to the first degree.
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">May - 'I Like Me Better' by Lauv<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
Lauv is one of my favourite discoveries of 2017. His soothing vocals and jazzy upbeat tracks create incredible visual and impactful stories that unfold lyric by lyric. They just speak to my soul! This boy needs to release his album asap next year because the wait is just too much!
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">June - '<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">Strangers' by Halsey ft Lauren
Returning with a vengeance is Halsey! While Badlands explored the apocalyptic realm of no return<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">, Hopeless Foundation Kingdom <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">was romance, tragedy and redemption all in a pretty bow. I love the way she creates concept albums with a narrative, but how each song tells it's own story too. Strangers <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">is also an epic tune that is entrancing as hell.
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">July - 'Despacito (Remix)' by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee ft Justin Bieber
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">As soon as you hear that gentle guitar strum transform into eargamisc musical ocean waves, it's as if the world has come full circle. I love the fact that this song literally has paved the way for international artists to seep into the mainstream. Plus ... it sounds so awesome too! So freaking epic.
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">August - 'Attention' - Charlie Puth
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">The 90s and early 00s were the really best time for soulful RnB. Somehow Charlie has managed to capture that essence and combined it with an uber electric quirky beat that breathes life into the radio. Seeing him unveil this exterior layer to his personality and music makes me think his next album is going to be one hell of a groundshaker!

September - 'There's Nothing Holding Me Back' by Shawn Mendes
Let's face it, when it comes to Shawn, anything he sings and writes melts the hearts of every single female. This track is no freaking exception. Poor Shawn - he keeps chasing after a wild-child who keeps him running for miles! It's his own fault since his whipped ...
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
October- 'Blood, Sweat and Tears' - BTS<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
It's a known fact that K-Pop Boybands have the ultimate form of swagger. From their sultry eyes, impeccable fashion taste to their electric dance moves, they dominate the floor they stride on. BTS literally smashed into the global music sphere and I am so freaking proud. You know what the best part is? This is only the beginning ...
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">November - 'Homemade Dynamite' (Remix) <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">- Lorde ft Khalid, Post Malone and SZA<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
Electrically charged and mellow to the bone, Lorde has always had an ethereal-esque tone to her tracks and this hit is no different. Every featured artist on this song literally compliments her raw raspy vocals, which takes this song on a whole different level. Trans-freaking-cended I tell you.
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">December - 'Alexander Hamilton' by Cast of Hamilton
To the musical that dominated me eardrums for the entire year .... it's Hamilton! After waiting - for what feels like a lifetime - Hamilton finally premiered at the West End in London this month! I'm not usually one for musicals, but the diverse inclusivity and R&B/Hip-hop-esque soundtrack on the most historical story ever, has me singing at the top of my lungs. Oh lord!
Reading is the most inexpensive form of travel and entertainment known to man. It's a fact without a doubt. I love to read and I know there are so many who feel the same. But when you're as addicted to books as they come, book buying can literally burn a hole in your paycheck if you aren't careful. That's honestly why I've come to love eBooks so much. Not only do you get incredible book deals, but they are also so easy to carry around. There's just not added worry of denting or destroying pristine book covers and clean-cut pages while you're manoeuvring on public transport.
Since I'm an avid bargain hunter, I've decided that I'll be posting my monthly finds at the beginning of the month for you to enjoy. Now check out these awesome finds and enjoy to your heart's content fellow book nerds!
I absolutely love the internet. It's inspired me to embrace creativity, express myself and even pursue my dreams. Since I started blogging at the age of 14, so many things have changed. Before there was a pure focus on content solely. Whereas now, as a blogger or even a millennial, there's an expectation to be active on the socials and really showcase your personality and lifestyle. It's a beautiful thing being able to connect with so many, but how truly connected are we?

Social media has many perks. It's lovely being able to create friendships with people living across the world and keep in touch with old ones too. I like seeing and interacting with people's thoughts and opinions, and exploring their personal canvas on their feeds. You're really able to document stages of your life and that's a beautiful thing. But for me personally, posting and documenting every inch of my life for the public to see is not something I want to do. I've always had reservations when it comes to sharing the details of my life online. There are certain memories I selfishly want to keep to myself and the people who were there with me. I don't want to let the entire world know what I'm doing and thinking every waking hour of the day.

When I'm at a party, a book signing or even just hanging out with friends, I want to be able to sit down and enjoy the conversations around me; truly immerse myself in the experience, rather than snapchat and tweet all about it. I want to be present in that very moment and enjoy all it has to offer. I've seen so many people around me interrupt value time with their friends just to take multiple pictures of their surroundings, track the number of likes on their insta feed, and have other conversations on their phone in the middle of a conversation. Why spend time collecting pictures of memories that hold little or no substance just to fill your social media feed?

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with taking pictures to capture the moment. Heck, I do it all the time. But I don't want the content and superficial numbers to dominate my surroundings. The past year away from blogging truly gave me perspective. While I'll always dabble and explore the world of the interwebs, I don't want to live out my life solely online. I want to spend as much time connecting with the world around me and making quality relationships and memories.

If I'm so caught up in my own little bubble and virtual world, how can I truly enjoy and experience the world around me? I want to be present in the moment with the people I love and those who have yet to meet.

Can anyone else relate? Do you disagree? I'm curious to know what you think!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6056309813798712382.post-91059476940798224982017-09-16T11:30:00.000+01:002017-09-16T11:30:13.814+01:00Surviving East High

In celebration of the anniversary of High School Musical, here is a little tribute to the story that made our childhoods epic!

Oh you look like you're new here. Let me fill you in on the details ... I was once the new kid on the block, and trust me when I say this, you're lucky to have me on your side kiddo. You see East High isn't like other schools. Now you may be thinking I'm crazy here, but seriously, this school is run on a tight-ship. We have a status quo, one that can not be messed with. Unless you want to deal with queen-bee Sharpay Evans that is. She may look innocent from far, but she's as feisty and fierce as you come.

Follow these golden rules and your time at East High shall be a breeze!

1. Find your clique and stick to it.
If you love b-balling after school, make your way over to the jocks. Fan of chem and bio, the lab will do! Once you find your clique, stick with them. They're what you've been looking for; your crew who truly understand you for who you are - you gel. But most of all - you are protected against the herd. Like a gazelle in the wild, if you're alone and running free ... well bad things tend to happen to those who don't follow the rules. Hyenas love to pounce...

2. School Spirit is a must
East High is not like other schools. School spirit is literally in the water here. I'm talking mid-day parade and fireworks on Game Day. It's a celebration of everything that we are. We live and breathe the colours red and white on sporting days. There's just no escaping the wildcat pride. One for all, and all for one!

3. Do not date Troy Bolton. I repeat avoid Troy Bolton at all costs.
You may be thinking who on earth is Troy Bolton? What harm could a high school Basketball legend do? But it's not him you need to worry about. See there are so many wondering eyes on that poor boy. But there's one in particular you need to be careful of ... Sharpay Evans. You'd will be a dead girl walking if she catches you in conversation with Troy. Trust me - that girl has sharp nails and one hell of a kick for a petite blonde.

I can tell you have potential. Keep straight and true, and you'll do well at East High. Good luck!

Pitch black and starry bright lights, there is nothing quite like seeing a movie for the very first time plastered across the big screen, sinking into those crimson velvet chairs while you wait. The anticipation thickens as more and more trailers grace the high definition screen in front of your eyes. Once the showing begins, you are captivated by the universe right before you. The memory of that awkward little eye duel you had with the stranger sitting beside you fades away entirely, while you immerse yourself in this utter fictional goodness.

Movies have an incredible way of transporting you to another world, outside of your imagination with characters you come to love and care for. Once you add the cinema experience to that equation - the dimmed lights, enhanced sound quality and classic comfy red seats - it only makes everything so much extraordinary. But does this experience alter the way you would ordinarily see a film if you were watching it at home?

Sitting next to someone can subconsciously change the way you see a scene. Their reactions and comments may actually influence your own opinion. Multiple that by the subtle gasps and hiccuped laughter of a mass audience and that's a whole other story. Friends often have a way of changing your perception on something you may not have thought otherwise. If the sound is amplified, maybe you're able to hear something that you wouldn't have even noticed in the comfort of your own home. Do the enhanced visuals and sound effects also take away from the actual core storyline and dialogue? If the enhanced viewing experience wasn't present, would you have the same opinion?

So does watching a movie in the cinema alter the way you see it? In my opinion, yes. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you enjoyed your experience watching it, then the movie was a success. Critic ratings and other people's opinions do not make a good movie. A good movie is an experience you have lived through where you were able to escape into the universe of another character and enjoy their world for two hours. It's when you had a great time with friends, giggling over unbelievable acting and cheesy one-liners. Not everything you watch has to be a perfect masterpiece, just an enjoyable memory to look back on.

So what do you think? Tell me more in the comments below!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6056309813798712382.post-10106505032740685852017-08-12T14:06:00.001+01:002017-09-30T19:26:12.825+01:0024 Amazing ebooks Deals on Right Now!

There is truly nothing that compares to reading a physical copy of a novel in your hands. Gripping each page with such intensity as you try to uncover the mysteries hidden beneath, but yet also trying very very hard to persevere each page with such tender loving care. The struggles of a bookworm I tell you ...

Before I bought my Amazon Fire tablet last year, I couldn't stand the idea of ebooks. It just didn't feel quite the same ... And while physical books are irreplaceable, there is something amazing about being able to read on the go with ease and also buy so many books without breaking the bank! I am a sucker for checking out deals on Amazon, and can not stand to keep these to myself any longer. So without further ado, here are 24 books currently on offer right now. Enjoy to your heart's content fellow book nerds!

Fiction is my addiction - my Achilles heel if you will. So it's no surprise really when I tell you that two years ago when I discovered Wattpad for the first time, I became obsessed. For the record when I mean obsessed, I mean practically reading at least two books or more per week. Since my last post about Wattpad (Five Reasons Why Wattpad is Awesome), I have come to realise it's biggest flaw...

With so many stories being published and updated everyday, it's hard to separate the incredible stories you thoroughly enjoy from the ones that just don't speak to you. Let's face it, who has the time to sift through the entire Wattpad catalogue? Recommendations are definitely the way forward. On that note, here are five stories I have fallen in love with and that you need to read asap!

James & Lyla
UnsinkableShips

How do you deal with the aftermath of a breakup? How do you move forward from that very moment your heart was broken? In a series of letters to her ex-boyfriend, Lyla comes to terms with her heartache and reflects on the end of her relationship with James. Through a series of letters, she finds comfort and closure which leads her to discover so much more.

Not your typical teenage love story, James and Lyla is one of the more darker emotionally powerful stories I've ever come across on Wattpad. Relationships are complicated especially when obstacles come their way. Watching Lyla explore the events of her relationship with James is one of the most poetic and vulnerable tales I've ever read anywhere.

Once Upon a Royal One-Night Stand
ThatReeader

When her ex-boyfriend leaves her heartbroken, Hailey finds comfort in a one-night stand with a random stranger. Her knight in shining armour just so happens to be a prince. In this coming of age tale where Princess Diaries meets Love, Rosie, Hailey tries to navigate her way through university, her developing relationship with Matt and the pressures of fraternising with the royals.

This story is absolutely hilarious and thoroughly entertaining. I honestly can't wait to see how Hailey and Matt's relationship continues to develop through the obstacles they face. What's even more incredible is that this story will be published once it's finished. Get your paws on this one quickly guys before the rest of the world does!
Enchanted
Zaligal

In this Teen-Wolf-meets-Harry-Potter crossover, Enchanted is set in the world of the cheeky Marauders represented by Stiles, Scott, Isaac and Danny. As the boys cause mischief across Hogwarts halls, Stiles finds himself drawn to the hardworking conscientious Lydia Martin and he just can't stay away.

Creating a crossover between two of the most iconic and well-known fandoms of all time has to be one of the most challenging tasks ever. But I really have to say, the author completely owns this entirely! Beautifully capturing the essence of the characters and creating a unique spin on the universe, Enchanted is utterly captivating. There are layers to this world that I am so excited to see unfold!

Willow
Cloudedwithstories

In this futuristic dystopia universe, werewolves have taken over Earth, while humanity has sought refuge underground. Willow - the daughter of the founder and heir to the throne so to speak - has always dreamt of seeing the outside world for herself and exploring the mysteries that lie above. On her journey upwards, she stumbles across a world filled with danger and conflict. But yet somehow in the midst of all the chaos, she finds herself drawn a werewolf named Arlo.

Wattpad is overflowing with werewolf stories fuelled by fantasy. But there's something very special about Willow that makes this story so extraordinary. Not only does it realistically explore the tension between humankind and werewolves theoretically of course, but also has the most well-developed, dynamic and entertaining relationships I've seen in the genre. Such a pleasure to read!

You Should Come With a Warning
Panicattackkisses

With a possessive boyfriend thousands of miles away, Lydia is a college freshman living life one day at a time. On a chance encounter in the co-ed bathrooms of all places, she meets Stiles Stilinski, - an endearing bad boy with undeniable wit and a cheeky attitude - who is a storm to be reckoned with.

Perfectly showcasing the complexity of relationships in the ambiguous college environment, You Should Come With a Warning is a realistic telling of the development of undefined relationships. One of my favourite things about fanfiction is it can truly amplify and really play with the canon characteristics we are so used to seeing, and this so doesn't disappoint!

Popular culture has always been my favourite form of entertainment. There's something captivating about the fictional universe. It's no wonder that the passion the fans hold near and dear has led to the most amazing forms of creativity, from artistic graphics to fanfiction. Arguably the best result of fan creativity has to be the intricately themed monthly subscription boxes. Without knowing where to look, it can be quite difficult to find the quirky and unique gems that lie hidden in the depths of the internet. That is why subscription boxes like Loot Crate, FairyLoot and OwlCrate are so amazing, because they contain hidden treasures that fanboys and fangirls myself just adore!

But the one theme I have yet to see is the Darkest Nights. The best moments in life and fiction happen during the late evening when the world seems so still and quiet, but yet somewhere in the distance, the adventure has only just begun. The Darkest Nights are a time where heroes and villains carry out their deeds and debts; where the action, drama and romance flourish into the breeze alongside the nights' sky. It's only fitting therefore to create a themed box dedicated to the cause. So without further ado, here is my ultimate dream crate inspired by the series and fandoms that made me fall in love with the night!
Every hero needs their own luck charm to get them through their quest, don't they? In the world of the Shadowhunters, where youngsters are trained to battle demonic forces and foes from birth, the Iratze healing rune is an essential. To be able to heal quicker and faster than the normal average human rate is an asset. With such luck on your side, how could you fail?
Quotes are often a perfect summary of the things we love and words of wisdom passed on from generation to generation. But the best quotes are the ones that have yet to be created, spoken spontaneously in the heart of the moment. And that is exactly how Amani’s story truly started.

Determined to find her way to freedom, Amani is set on her journey ahead. But after being confronted by Jinn - a traveller amongst the sand - she finds herself seeking a different path that will cement her name in history.
While the night holds adventure and mystery waiting to be discovered, it also brings fear and devastation to those who have something to lose. But those obstacles are often the ones that make us stronger and better versions of ourselves. If fiction has taught me anything, it is that!
If any show was the epitome of late night adventures, it would be Teen Wolf. What started as two friends Stiles and Scott searching the dark depths of the woods for a dead body, turned into a jam-packed adventure for the boys into the supernatural world of Beacon Hills.
Each character represents a different characteristic and trait we aspire to hold dear. I will truly miss this show when the final episode airs later this year.
I'm tongue-tied and teary eyed even thinking about you now. You were a breath of fresh air in a world filled with obstacles and sugarcoated dialogue. With no filter holding you back, you told it like it was. Straight up and forward with no icing layered in between. Like no one else I ever met, you had a way with words and sharp tongue that could bring the ultimate sass to any comeback. Strangers may have thought you to be harsh, but we who knew you knew better. Hidden behind the blunt truth was a heart of gold that shone so brightly and so beautifully.

The lack of your presence on this universe ripples across ocean waves. You are unforgettable and irreplaceable. The universe is not the same without you. Though you're returned to the universal atmosphere, your essence lingers in the in-between whilst me and your nearest and dearest share our fondest memories of you.

 We laugh at your stupidity and then our own. We smile at things that remind us of you. Those battered up converse sneakers, that long curly brown hair, that black leather jacket draped across your chair. Sharing memories like picking biscuits from a cookie jar, we eagerly exchange stories. As we speak we begin to notice the random quirks you had, things we noticed but never voiced out loud. Our eyes light up with understanding and we find ourselves giggling hard. Too hard. And then just as it started, our laughter fades into the darkness. Our eyes filled with regretful understanding and a longing to return to what was.

Though you aren't near anymore, we keep you near in our hearts and pray that one day when we met again you'll be smiling across the border as if to say,

'Hello friend, you made it to the land of clarity and freedom. I left you so quickly and I'm sorry for that. I had no idea how much I meant to you, and now I wish to tell you how you impacted me. What your presence in my life meant to me truly."

We'll sit down next to the river and just talk. You'll share stories that remind you of us, and we'll laugh like we always did.

Not a day goes by where you don't cross my mind. There's so much I wish I could have told you. So many moments we had yet to share, but I'm grateful to have known you.

I miss you my dear friend. Until we met again.

You're waiting on the platform for your next train into work. The sky is a blended mixture of light pale blue and auburn. The bitter cold from the morning air hits your cheeks, while you're sandwiched between two strangers. As your neighbour taps his boot against the concrete, you can't help but peer over the edge of the platform searching for on-coming trains. Finally, the train arrives, but as it's the early morning rush hour, you struggle to find a seat and are left standing in the crowd. Next to you is a young teen, blasting the latest rap tune gracing the Big Top 40. The beat pulses through the airwaves on the tight-knit carriage. How can you escape the chaos around you for the next hour? How do you entertain your mind from solid boredom?

Podcasts have honestly been my personal life-saver on the morning commute. An entertaining topic and captivating voice can definitely make that incredibly long journey fly by. They can be a great way to brighten up your morning. I've fallen in love listening to engaging stories and found inspiration from the great and passionate. So today, I'm going to share a few of my favourites with you.

Serial
One summer afternoon in 1999, Hae Min Lee mysteriously disappears one day after school. Six weeks later, her ex-boyfriend and classmate Adnan Syed is arrested and charged for her murder. After all this time, he continues to claim his innocence. Captivated by his story, Sarah Koenig speaks to the people who were there the day Hae disappeared to uncover the real story behind the case.

To the podcast that started it all of, thank you! Serial is the ultimate classic that will stay with you long after you finish the series. The accounts told by the then teenagers now-turned-adults are not only captivating but so suspenseful. Episode by episode, you are able to piece together elements of the puzzle. You constantly wonder, 'Is Adnan truly guilty or was he wrongly convicted of a crime he didn't commit?' The anticipation alone will keep you entranced until the very end.

#GIRLBOSS
If you're looking for a power podcast to prep you for your day at work, this is it! Sophia Amoruso, the founder of Nasty Gal and the Girlboss community, is one of the most notable figures in the world. #GIRLBOSS is a compilation of inspirational conversations with women who've worked their way to success.

Don't be misled by the title, this podcast is not just for women. From personal stories of humble beginnings to discussions about empowering career goals, Sophia does a brilliant job of keeping the balance between the serious sage advice and light-hearted humour. It is so inspiring to see the leaders share their knowledge and experiences of life. You'll be thoroughly engaged and entertained.

Lore
With one of the most captivating and soothing voices ever to grace the planet, Aaron Mahnke tells the stories of folklore taken from historical events. Describing these supernatural elements alongside fact and logic, there is a sense of realism behind these spooky stories which keep you on the edge of your seat.

Now as most of you know I'm not usually one for horror stories, but the beauty of this podcast is just undeniable. Aaron has a way of drawing you in by creating beautifully vivid descriptions of characters and passing towns. The storytelling in this podcast is absolutely superb and worth the nightmares! Though I warn you, be careful not to listen to the episodes in one go. You may find yourself a little spooked come midnight when you turn the lights off...

Gilmore Guys
Now who said that Gilmore Girls was just for girls? Kevin Porter and Demi Adejuyigbe are the masterminds behind this brilliant concept. Hardcore fan Kevin introduces Demi to the world of Gilmore Girls. Together they divide deep into the episodes of the show and fanboy till the sun goes down.

The pair are the most charismatically charming and funloving hosts I have come across in the world of podcasting. I love listening to these guys interview the cast of Gilmore Girls. From discussing the details of Stars Hallow, the film industry to food preferences, it's a delight to listen to them converse and speak with the cast. They both have very fruitful careers ahead of them and I can't wait to see what they get up to next!

Which Podcasts do you recommend? Any that I should be looking out for?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6056309813798712382.post-20441715699484757142017-02-06T17:00:00.000+00:002017-02-06T17:00:07.812+00:00How Trump Brought The World Together

I still remember the day 9/11 took place. As an eight-year-old, I was horrified that such an act could even occur in the name of religion; a religion that had taught me I could not even harm a spider intentionally. How could these terrorists really label themselves as Muslims when they didn't even know the meaning of the word? Fast forward to several years later, I remember the dread of hearing of another terrorist attack. Not only because so many more innocents had been injured and harmed by another act of horror, but also because of the inevitable blame that would come towards Islam; towards individuals who had no play in such horrors. I can vividly recall stories and memories of the prejudice and fear I and my fellow Muslims have faced because of these events. In all honesty, every time a terrorist attack happens, I have always feared the backlash of what may occur.

Last week that horror came to life when Trump brought chaos to the world. Our worst fears came true. By creating an order to preventing travel to and from seven Muslim nations, Donald Trump specifically attempted to alienate the population based on religion and race, with no factual evidence to back up his claims. Thousands have been affected by the travel band, including Americans themselves who not only have legal right to live in the USA, but have passed all the necessary measures to be citizens of the state. What Trump fails to truly realise is that ISIS and Islam are not unanimous. Muslims are not the problem. Just like Jews were not the problem during the Nazi Hilter reign. In fact, his so-called measures give ISIS more ammunition to recruit in underdeveloped nations, where Education is considered a luxury. I couldn't believe that I was witnessing humanity take a step back into the dark ages.

But then something beautiful and incredible happened. The entire world stood up against Trump and his ideals. Today I've seen so many people standing up injustice. I've seen the world unite to support those affected. Never have I felt more touched and accepted by the entire universe. Seeing the world unite together and defend my fellow Muslims has been one of the most touching experiences of my life. In fact - in these dark times - it gives me hope that we can get through this battle. I'm so proud of humanity. And while the fight against this injustice isn't over, I take comfort in the fact that we are united as one. Thank you humanity. You've not only restored my faith in the universe, but also made me proud to be human. Thank you to every single one of you fighting for equality. I could not be more grateful to be a citizen of this universe. And in some weird twisted way, I would have never been able to witness this without Trump and his crazy antics. Congratulations Trump, you've brought the universe together, and made us realise we all have something in common - our humanity.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Last year whilst I was surfing across the interwebs, I stumbled across an article by Teen Vogue stating that '48% of millennials believe the American dream is dead'. Now considering the current state of events taking place in 2016 - Trump being elected for President and ruining the universe - it isn't surprising at all of the results. But it got me thinking, what does the American Dream mean in the modern age and our generation? Can its ideals truly exist in our society?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The American Dream signifies a time when people travelled from far and wide across the globe to the promised land. America was the blessed paradise where dreamers could make a name for themselves and secure their families future. Settlers could work hard and create a home in a suburban county, surrounded by a white picket fence. They would work hard and tirelessly towards the opportunity to succeed and stand up for what they believed in. The American Dream is a nostalgic ideal that transcends beyond the nation of its origin.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Back in the day, things were different. The world was based on national pride. Globalism hadn't conquered the universe yet. In order to be successful, you need to go where success was made. You had to live near where you worked. You would work in an organisation<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> and work your way up the ladder until retirement. That was the norm. Though that principle exists, time has changed. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Circumstances have changed.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">P<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">eople don't dedicate their working lives to one company anymore - they move around and test the waters. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Teenagers and millennials alike create<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">careers out of bedroom hobbies, producing videos, written content and audio tracks without the help of the professionals. There are thousands of people who work globally and remotely through the use of technology. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">We can become the masters of our own invention and sell products directly to an audience, through Etsy, Ebay and other online outlets. The gatekeepers have to prove their value and worth, in a world where access is freely and instantly <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">available<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">at the touch of your fingertips. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">America is no longer the only go-to for success. Success is not defined by where you came from. It's defined by you and what you value you most in this world.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Maybe the American Dream is evolving into that we can relate to. It's our generation and the changes we face that determine what that might be. It's evolving into an ideal of what we'd like the world to be. A world where we can live together and also support each other, beyond labels and prejudice hindering our progress. It's a future we hope that we will come to see one day as we continue to fight the circumstances of society.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: medium;">
So what do you think? What does the American Dream mean to you? Does it still exist? Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6056309813798712382.post-69563886372181062172016-12-05T17:00:00.000+00:002016-12-19T17:03:00.922+00:00Five Life Lessons From #GIRLBOSS

Speaking of life lessons, let's get started!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">1. There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure.
Life has a funny way of giving you what you need, not what you want. At the time things can really feel like they are falling apart. But consider this, maybe life is giving you a blessing in disguise. Not only do these moments truly build your character and resilience to life, - which let's face it can be so unbelievably unpredictable, - but they can help open opportunities which you may never have considered otherwise. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, look beyond that and see where you can go from here. So many successful people have risen from the ashes, you can too.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">2.There's no autocorrect in life - think before texting the universe.
It can be so easy to forget that the world is at your fingertips. We take it for granted. Our words are a huge part of our identity. Once you release that into the digital universe, you can't take it back. It's permanently engrained on the internet. You have to consider what impact your speech has on others. These actions reflect your own character and who you are. So before you publish your tweets and posts, choose your words wisely.
Flashback to 10 years ago, I hated reading with a passion. At the time, I thought books were utterly boring and filled with dull characters, random adjectives and poetic devices thrown in for good measure. But then I picked up Twilight for the first time and I saw the light. Finally I found the true pleasure of reading at my fingertips and gosh, it was beautiful. A genre that spoke to my soul ... All I wanted to do was absorb every inch of fictional goodness out there; to truly indulge myself into any book that made me feel alive and inspired.

As time went by, I discovered the online community of book lovers and never looked back. The amount of engaging conversations amazed me. Sharing your thoughts with fellow fangirls and boys across the world has been such a life-changing experience. I found book buddies who loved discussing plot details at length, enthusiastically recommended books to one another and consumed every inch of news concerning new book and squeal releases. Through this all, I absolutely fell in love the book community. The celebration of new book releases and book hype trends has helped me discover so many incredible reads. I have been very thankful for that ... Well until the beginning of the year when I found myself being to think a little differently ...

When I moved to London in January, I was dedicated to working hard at my new job and spending time with friends and family. Between balancing full-time work and social commitments, I was exhausted. The commute was long, and due to other commitments I had, I just didn't have the time to read anymore. It didn't help that I was suffering from a major case of the classic reading slump. I found myself at an impasse. So unintentionally I took a break. A breather from the echoes of hype and written fiction.

It wasn't long until I started to hear about all these books that I needed to read. Squeals. New releases by debut authors. Established and respected authors releasing new books. Between my current TBR and the new releases coming out, it was so overwhelming. The need to catch up was oddly motivational yet completely putting off. So began the spiral staircase. Where would I even start? I felt like I was drowning in a sea of books, and all of a sudden I just didn't want to hear about it anymore. The hype and book trends made me feel claustrophobic. I couldn't help thinking, how did it even get to this?

When I started reading YA, I read for the passion of the story. I read for the pure pleasure of indulging in someone else's mindset. Now I've begun to feel the pressure to keep up with the popular books, so I can be a part of these amazing discussions with fellow book lovers and immerse myself in the book culture. I feel the guilt of not writing reviews when I've finished reading novels. What happened to the pure joy of it all? Lately, I just miss the teenage me who just read for fun. It's hard to find the balance between staying in the loop and pleasure. But maybe it's time to go back to what started the passion; the beauty of fiction as it's own art form.

What are your thoughts on Book Trends? Has the pressure to keep up affected you?

London has always been sort of an enigma to me. Several months ago, all I knew of this city was its residential cul-de-sacs and suburban roads, leading to family and family friend's houses. Through visiting over the years, I had been so close to the centre - the pulsing heart of the country, - but yet had bypassed its core. That was until January when I packed up my bags and left for the big city.

Since then, I've been thoroughly inducted as a Londoner. Long gone are the fresh doe eyes as I awoke every morning to take the tube to central, surrounded by natives who could barely notice my excitement through their sleepy daydreams. Instead of pausing to gaze in awe on my journey to work, I now briskly rush down its street and into the dark tunnels of the underground tube system. I zoom past other faces of people I've never known before in solidarity, as we all focus on our own destinations. But there are many times, I still find myself deeply fascinated. I pause midway and begin to admire the beauty of this city. On the surface I may be a Londoner, but my heart beats as a tourist, seeing this city for the first time all over again.

Living here is so different from visiting. As a tourist, you want to soak up the golden richness of this city. Your time is precious, so you plan to make the most of it. But as a resident, you want nothing more than to curl up in your comfy bed and Netflix after a hard day of work or nights of socialising. Working in London, the commute is long and the working day is hard. It can take more than two hours to get to another part of the city, and don't even get me started on the commute home. The jam-packed tube rides, and bustling crowds make the journey seem even longer than it is. After a short while, you find yourself slowly becoming immune to your surroundings as you being to settle down. It's complacency more than anything. Sure, you stop in wonder and find yourself admiring the most exquisite places in passing, telling yourself that you will come back. But somehow you never seem to explore these gems again. They become a name of the list tucked away at the bottom of your desk drawer.

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Like so many other millennials here before me, <span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">I've fallen into a routine of work, catching up with friends and family at the usual hang-outs<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">, and sleeping away the night. But my heart longs to see more. Call it wanderlust, but I crave more. So much more ...
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
I long to see the sunset on Embankment as the fireworks of Guy Fawkes night blaze over the waters below. I crave to see the hidden cafes and g<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">ems<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;"> of London, tucked away in hidden corners away from the central tourist attractions. I hope to taste all the wonderous foods this city has to offer and inhale its aromas. T<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">hough it's impossible to know this city inside out - as it continuously grows and changes - I wish to know it's streets intimately. Too often I've found myself becoming complacent here in one of richest and most sort after wonders of the world.

Because of this, I'll be creating a new series called 'Wandering in London', to capture and document my experiences here. I'm inspiring myself to indulge in the world outside my doorstep and get myself GOMO - Going Out More Often. Time to kick off those comfy house slippers and into some converses, ready to soar into the streets of London. Who knows what I may discover next?

Back then, I certainly never had to worry one bit about fishing for change in my back pocket. But alas, with independence and adult life comes the bittersweet responsibility of money. At first, you feel pretty powerful looking at your bank account when you get your first proper paycheck or installment of your student loan. But then comes the bills, one after the other. First rent, food and then utilities - the practical trio as I like to call them. Before you know it, that big lump sum you had at the beginning of the month ... well it's starting to shrink fast.
<span style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #4f4f4f; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 26px;">
Every penny seriously counts as an adult. Sometimes the difference between one pound or two in your weekly grocery shopping could help you book a holiday far far away later in the year. The idea of saving may seem pretty daunting, but it's well worth doing in the long term. Future you will be very happy you did so! On that note, here are five tips to help you make the most of your pennies.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1. Budget
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Before you even begin to reach for your purse, it's important to work out how much money you can afford to splurge this month. Subtract all of your essential costs (i.e. rent, food, phone contract etc) and see how much you have left over. This way, you'll have a better idea of what you can afford, rather than going in blind and basically becoming a child in a candy store every time you shop.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">
2. Bargain Hunt
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Do you need to go to a big branded supermarket when you could pop over to local markets for some fresh veg? Do you need the branded item of Heniz soup or could the average Tesco or Aldi brand be just as good? Country to popular belief, just because something is more expensive doesn't mean it has better value. Keeping an eye on pricing and quality while you shop will help you make the most of your well-earned pennies.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
2. 'Do you really need that?'
<span style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #4f4f4f; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; line-height: 26px;">Decipher between what is a luxury and an essential, and be honest with yourself. Maybe the latest book release - however many times you try to convince yourself - is not exactly an essential. Is this something that is within your budget for the month? If the answer is no, then you put that item back on the shelf. You will not physically die without that. However missing out paying your rent or food bill for the month, is pretty much going to come back and bite you in the behind. Do not follow in the footsteps of Isla Fisher's character in Confessions of a Shopaholic.

4. Save
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Lock away a certain amount of your wage per month into a nice tidy ISA account, where you physically can not access it with ease. That way you'll be less tempted to dip into your savings. This fund will help you on a rainy day when things don't seem to be going so well, and it'll feel like such an achievement too!

5. Cheap Thrills
<span style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #4f4f4f; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; line-height: 26px;">Some people believe in order to have a good time you have to pay for entertainment, and that is so not true.

Over the past several weeks, I've begun to fall in love with so many little aspects of London. From the quaint little pop-up shops in Underground stations to the bright lights of Piccadilly Square, there is always something to do and something to see here. But in order to get anywhere in this bustling city, you need to take the tube a.k.a the most organised form of chaos you have ever seen!

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">It can be pretty tricky navigating in a new city, especially one with its own etiquette of public transport. I can still distinctly remember stumbling across Euston station for the first time like a lost puppy, while so many Londoners passed by me faster than the wind could carry them. They, of course, knew exactly where they were going, while I had to call up my Google Map Instructions to figure out where the hell I was. The joys of being a tourist! So from my perspective as a Londoner of two and a half months, here's how to take the tube like a natural.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">

1. Always stay to the right on the Escalators

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">London life is completely fast paced, and nothing reflects that more than the fast lane. If you have no intention of moving up the escalators and want to stay stationary during your journey, always stick to the right of the escalators. The left is the fast lane, dedicated to all those busy bees on their way to work or in a rush to get somewhere. Trust me, you do not <span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">want to disrupt their flow or <span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">else you may find yourself at the wrath of someone else's<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"> frustration.

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">2. Find Your Balance

The key to surviving a ride on the tube standing is balance. If you're taking the tube during peak hour than the likelihood of you finding a seat is pretty rare. More often than not, you'll find yourself , hanging on to side railings and ceiling hand holders to make sure you don't fall onto someone's lap. (I truly pity the soul who has been through this!) To avoid that awkward situation, you'll need to balance your feet accordingly. So rest the back part of your heel on the ground, giving you a firm grounding. Your knees slightly far apart, so you can rest ease but also have a strong stance standing. It'll help immensely when the tube driver decides to screech to a halt!

3. Let go of your idea of personal space

If you're lucky to take the tube outside of peak hour, then you may not have to worry about this at all. But during a peak hour ride, you may find yourself sandwiched between two bodies, brushing up against you and your belongings. That much pretty comes with the territory. As horrible as it sounds, this seriously shall pass. Everyone is moving onto their next stop, and while you have to endure this uncomfortable form of torture for a short while, soon enough you'll be free to breathe without inhaling a fist of someone else's hair. Just kidding! Well, sort of ...

4. Find an activity to entertain yourself on the commute
If you're a tourist gallivanting round Zone One, then you don't need anything but your excitement to keep you company. But my fellow commuters who live and breathe the London air every morning on their way to work, you need something to keep you busy - especially if you live outside of zone one. You can't get away with just sitting down staring out the window, because more often than not when you're underground, there is no scenic view from your window. And surfing the web is out the question as you barely have signal underground. The boredom will eventually drive you crazy. So find a podcast to listen to. Read a book or the metro. Write down your thoughts on your phone. It'll help so much in making the time pass. And before you know it your journey will be over.

4. Be prepared for the unexpected

Seriously the most random and bizarre things happen on the daily commute, like a man pocketing a young pup in his navy blue jacket pocket (which seriously happened for the record). London is an exciting filled with so many different types of people, living a range of varied lifestyles. You are bound to catch a glimpse of that as you travel, which can be pretty exciting and also very bizarre ... You'll leave with the most interesting stories.

5. Always have snacks and water at the ready

Before boarding the tube, make sure you have a snack and drink in your bag at the ready. Travelling underground can be a long journey, especially as the air down there is a little thinner and with the occasional red signal prolonging your travels as well. When there's also so many people in one vicinity, it's bound to get pretty stuffy. Having a drink on hand will help keep you hydrated and healthy on your way home. You'll be surprised how many people actually faint from the heat underground and the compact space. Accordingly to several of the tube staff, it's a pretty common occurrence - especially during the summer heat!

Seasoned Londoners, have any advice for newbies on taking the tube?
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "georgia" serif;">
Hello wonderful people from the other side, how are you all? You may have noticed over the past several weeks that I haven't posted in a while. Life has been pretty busy lately. While most people after New Year's Day were winding down to go back to the everyday post-festive routine, I was packing and planning my move all across the country for a new job. And of all cities to move to in the world, I moved to London. The ultimate destination of all freaking cities, how crazy right? It's definitely been an adjustment period that's for sure! London is like it's own little country, with it's own little system separate from the rest of England and it's been interesting so far to say the least. It's been a few weeks and I still can't believe I'm here!

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">London is the type of city that really needs no introduction. Its the gem of England, and probably the first city that most tourists think of when they think of Britain. You spend most of your early morning commuting with passing strangers, trying to avoid explicit eye contact. Your tube journeys are filled with bizarre moments and memories of intriguing characters and prologued delays. London is also the type of city that makes you very aware of the value of money. Seriously a tiny sandwich portion for £5, I could probably have made 3 square meals just from that! But past those elements there's something so enchanting about this little city that had an undeniable draw. Putting aside the logical notions of career prospects, there is so much to see and do. So much I even don't know where to start! Its a rich city surrounded by history and developing culture. I'm so excited to be here and can't wait to see what the next several months will bring!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
It's almost the end of 2015. Lord how did we even get here? It feels like just yesterday I was saying goodbye to 2014, and here we are - on the verge of a new year. The best thing about new beginnings is the excitement that comes with possibility. I can't believe we're at the end of another year already! Time is just going way too fast I swear. To end the year in style, I decided to put together a list of songs that I fell in love with this year to kick off the annual favourites of the year list. So without further ado, let's get started!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

Ja<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">nuary <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">- Immortals by Fall Out Boy

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">From the soundtrack of Big Hero 6 <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">comes this awesome anthem Immortals, <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">that rocks the sky with kickass-ness<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">. After kicking off the year with an unhealthy obsession with Fall Out Boy, I found myself amazed. This song was my jam. I latched on it's infectious and catchy beat, and did not look back since!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">February - Style by Taylor Swift
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">From the very get go, this song has distinctive beat that has my head nodding along, and my foot tapping in time with the rhythm. Taylor's vocals on this track are so soothing yet funky addictive. And with lines like these "You got that James Dean look in your eye," what more could you ask for?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">March - Scotland by <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The Lumières<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
Over the month of March I fell in love with a little show called Reign, and it's theme tune. Scotland by The Lumières has this so historically classic and quaint feel to it, that is just so addictive. With a folk like vibe and infectious rhythm, it's really hard not to fall in love with this melody. The perfect song to listen to when you're preparing for a journey - getting ready to go or to leave. Take your pick really.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

April - Lesser Oceans by Fences
MTV shows always have the best musical soundtracks, with undiscovered songs just waiting to be heard. After discovering Fences on this past season on Finding Carter, I found myself exploring their album and found this hidden gem. It's soothing, calm and epically lyrically awesome. The melody is so close to what I imagine pure love to be - soothing and free. This guy is one to watch - for sure.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
May - No Apologies by Empire Cast
Empire took over the world this year - from dominating topic conversations online to musical playlists. This song is what sparked my curiosity for the show, and I've never once looked back. It is the perfect track for when you need a pep talk, and need to get your head in the game!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

June - Favourite Record by Fall Out Boy
The best thing about The DUFF was honestly this song (sorry fans of the movie)! This little lovely lovely hidden gem became my ultimate summer theme anthem! It perfectly illustrates that summer vibe, and captures those moments where you fall in love with the world around you; where you can't stop jiving along to your favourite song alongside the people you love and cherish.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

July -Lucifer by Shinee
After rediscovering k-pop, I stumbled across this beast of a song that had me entranced. Those hypnotic dance moves and epic vocals are just so captivating. K-pop music videos are seriously the best thing on this planet, and these boys know how to make an entrance! Hilariously, when a friend of mine showed me this years ago, I gave her the most weirded out expression on the planet and laughed her off. Jokes on me now, since I can't stop watching!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

August - Jenny by Tyler Hilton
In August, I had the wonderful pleasure of seeing Tyler Hilton and Kate Voegele live in concert, and fulfilled by teen dreams of actually meeting them! It was incredible day, and I got to fall in love One Tree Hill and their music all over again. This particular song by Tyler Hilton took my breathe away that night and has stuck with me ever since.

Side note - If you ever get the chance to see them - please go. You'll never regret it!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

September - Now by Troublemaker
Dabbling back into K-pop world, I discovered this epic by the likes of the beautiful Hyuna and the dashing Hyunseung. The power couple of K-pop, who actually aren't even a couple. Like seriously?! Have you seen their chemistry?! This music video is so beautifully chilling drawing on themes of Bonnie and Clyde, and where Fast and Furious meets the Joker. I'm in love. Seriously.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

October - What Do You Mean by Justin Bieber
2015 is really the year for Justin Bieber. After all the negative press and awful things his done this year, he managed to get his act together and turn himself around. Now Justin is finally being recognised for something other than his rebellious misdemeanour's. With a beautifully eclectic melody soothed by his soft vocal tracks, What Do You Mean is a force to be reckoned with. And what makes this track even better, it tells a wonderful story about the confusion between relationships. Aren't they always complicated?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">November - Hello by Adele
The comeback everybody was waiting a lifetime for! And finally, we heard from the sweet angelic voice sent from the stars above. Adele continues to take my breath with this nostalgia ode to past relationships and friendships. She perfectly sums up how it feels to remember someone years after drifting apart. Clearly the rest of the world believes so too.

December - Love Me Like You by Little Mix
This song is literally the perfect mash of a classic Christmas tune with bells jingling in the background combined with Abba's authentic music styling's, which is what makes it all the more electric! My only complaint is I really wish the music video was based on Mean Girls. Seriously can you just imagine it now?! God, that would have made it all the more epic!
