Halloween - it's the time to celebrate all things scary and spooky, and the season of horror. Over the years, I've made my dislike for horror very clear. I can not watch horror films. Why? Because I imagine myself in the victims positions', being hunted down by a nameless creature with no moral compass. Gosh if that isn't terrifying enough, horror films make you feel like you're on the verge of the end of your life, which you can't help but remember before you go to sleep. Every ... single ... detail. Yup - I'm not having nightmares for weeks on end thank you very much.
But thanks to my lovely wonderful friends over the years, I have been forced to endure the terror of these movies year after year. During that time, I couldn't help but notice so many amateur mistakes. Seriously, are these characters trying to kill themselves on purpose? So in celebration of all things spooky, here are a few tips of what not to do in a horror film. A survival guide if you will.
With Halloween right around the corner, who doesn't love getting into the holiday spirit? As you may already know from last year's Halloweenesque American Television Special, I can not stand pure horror. Horror stories literally scare me to death - no pun intended. While I love getting into the holiday festivities, I do not fancy a night of debating weather I should or should not peak under the bed, or leave my lights on all night long to chase away the dark shadows. They've always almost gained a reputation amongst the fans, for being so brilliantly constructed. Almost ...
As Halloween draws near, nearly every single television channel is filled with spooky horror films, new trailer releases or television episodes celebrating the most supernatural day of the year. Now for some, this is incredible. It's a chance to get spooked, to feel the thrill, the rush of fear on the day that celebrates it all. As for me ... I definitely do not have the stomach to handle pure horror. There is just something so terrifying about those films or episodes, that just make me scared to shut my eyes at night - just in case something crawls from under the bed, or walks through walls to come for my bones! Dramatic ... I know. I have a very over-active imagination. So, for all you girls and guys out there in the same position as me, you don't have to worry! We can all stick together with our dramatic thrilling television episodes, which are just as exhilarating as any other horror movie out there. So without further ado and in no particular order, lets look at the alternatives ... Shall we?
